Cate McGowan is an essayist, poet, fiction writer, visual artist, scholar, and author of three books: True Places Never Are, a short story collection that won the Moon City Press Short Fiction Award; These Lowly Objects, a novel published by Gold Wake Press; and Writing is Revision, an essay collection forthcoming from De Gruyter Brill. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in many publications, including Glimmer Train, North American Review, Stonecoast Review, Chestnut Review, Shenandoah, Citron Review, Crab Orchard Review, Tahoma Literary Review, and Norton’s anthology, Flash Fiction International.
A native Georgian and current (reluctant) Sunshine State resident who has earned both an M.F.A. and Ph.D. and is pursuing another advanced degree from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. McGowan’s an assistant fiction editor for Pithead Chapel and recently was awarded an Atlantic Center for the Arts poetry residency.
